Each planet has a long list of correspondents. Planets are archetypes that can be found in every corner of this world, there is not one thing that is not related to a planet. When we were born each planet in the sky was in a constellation. Just like the Sun might have been in the sign Cancer when you were born the Moon might have been in Leo, and Jupiter could have been in Virgo, each of these planets, their placements, and aspect tell something about your life. Take a look at some significations that each planet might bring to the table.
The Moon moves constantly, she grows, shrinks, and sometimes gets lost. She is the closest planet to us, she is like our mother. She reflects light, she is our home, our emotions, our feelings. Cats are ruled by the Moon because their eyes fluctuate in size like the Moon, a truck driver is ruled by the Moon, for they are always on the move, never staying in one place. The Moon is the water in our body, and the compassion in our hearts. The Moon is ruled by Cancer, exalted in Taurus, in detriment in Capricorn, and in her fall in Scorpio. The Moon is a reminder that we are from something, we were born from a mother, therefore no matter where we are in life, at one time we were nurtured, loved, and attached to another human, our mother. Our ability to care and feel for another, to feel loss, to feel safe, the Moon rules our ever changing moods. If the Moon never moved, reality would stop. She is a satellite, she is beautiful, she is the people, she is born, she grows, fades and dies.
Mercury makes you think trice. He is the master magician, the comedy relief of the whole bunch. Mercury delivers messages, and sometimes loses the message. Our communication, thoughts, computers, sports, news, transportation, and medicine. He is the song you can’t get out of your head, he the brilliant idea you can’t put together, he’s the words on the tip of your tongue. Mercury is school, teachers, writers, musicians, and feet. Mercury is often moving backwards re doing things, making everything way more complicated than it should be. Mercury is that flat tire you got, or that middle finger you got. Mercury is Hermes Trismegistus. Mercury is astrology. Mercury is debate, detail, internet, social, and loud. If the moon is the way we feel, then mercury is how we express it. Mercury is ruled by Gemini and Virgo, in detriment in Sagittarius, and in fall in Pisces. Mercury is the small picture, he is a distraction, He’s fast, then slow, he will play tricks on you.
Venus is the planet of love and relationships. She is the joy of beauty, and the beauty of joy. The things you absolutely love to do and the feeling you get from doing them is Venus. She is sweet, cakes, candy, and all good food. She is lust, as well as love, she is appealing visuals such as art, and the disgusting feeling we have when we witness something unappealing. Venus is looking in a mirror, she is the happiness of union. She wants to bring people together, and she wants everyone to have fun. She is fair in her appearance and her judgments. She wants you to sign the contracts that join you with others. She is at home in Libra and Taurus and lost in Scorpio and Aries. She sings and dances, she gives gifts of the tangible type. She loves vacations, makeup and movie theaters. She signifies the colorful fragrant flowers, and the soft fancy beasts. She wants to hold your hand and never let go.
The king. The torch that leads your way. The Sun is the father, he gives light, life. He leads us. He spreads his light with others. The Sun is the plot of our movie. He is in charge, he is higher than you, stronger than you, and more powerful than you. He overshadows anyone near him. He is healthy, he is giving, he is noble, he is honest, he is a loved king. The Sun is our self-expression, and our drive to create. Like the lion he is bold. He is at home in Leo, exalted in Aries, and diminished in Aquarius and Libra. The Sun is the city, the government, those in charge. The Sun is our recognition, our admiration, our goals, our ego. The Sun is the fire that burns inside each of us, that pushes us, that leads us, it that force that shines through us to others, it’s our mission. The Sun is the center, he is our core, our confidence. The Sun wears a crown for he is king.
Our guiding knife. He loves to cut, sever, and separate. He is our determination to win. Mars is our firefighters and police, he is our muscles, our grinding teeth. He makes no apologies, takes what he wants, has no regrets. Mars is distant, but close enough to strike. Mars is a sharpening stone, a missile, a crack in the road. He has scars on his face and hands. He wants to confront you about all the things you have said. He is the soldier, the warrior and the surgeon, he chops wood, breaks glass, and cooks meats. He is handsome, but brash, he is a thief, and a hero. He rules cayenne pepper, because it burns your throat and eyes. He has no time for agreements and will not commit. He is protection, he is pursuit, he is aggression. Mars is at home in Scorpio and Aries, exalted in Capricorn, and debilitated in Libra Taurus and Cancer. Mars is our ability to act, our reason to fight, our impulse towards competition.
Jupiter symbolizes hope. Jupiter represents all things that are good and beneficial to you. Jupiter is like Santa Clause, he is big and jolly and always giving gifts. Jupiter is religion, foreign lands, Jupiter draws back the arrow but does not aim upon release. Jupiter is the big picture, the grand idea, the chicken that has not hatched. His promises will keep you inspired, keep you coming back for more. Jupiter is knowledge, wisdom, and roads traveled to obtain it. Jupiter is the mushroom that is produced from too many nutrients. Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces, he is exalted in Cancer and debilitated in Virgo, Capricorn and Gemini. Jupiter makes things grow, sometimes he makes things grow so big its harmful, or over exaggerated. He is optimistic, lucky, abundant, and a savior. Jupiter reminds us that anything is possible, and your next big break is right around the corner, even if its not. Jupiter wants us to fly high, to seek adventure, and with it gain knowledge.
Saturn represents structure, solitude, seriousness, and solemness. He moves slowly conserving his energy, he waits patiently. Inch by inch, day, by day, step by step. Saturn loves responsibilities and has no problem doing the dirty work. He is humble, he is beat down, he is washed up, he has been used, yet he continues. He is time, he is winter, he is the hard lesson learned, the consequence, the feeling of coming up short. He feels stuck and wishes he could break free. He wants the best for everyone but understands it can’t be. He is ill, he accepts his fate, he is quiet and still, he is old, rooted and wise. He constantly reminds us he was once in our position himself, so listen! He is repetition until you get it right, he’s the one that has to finish the job after everyone left. He turns out the light, and elbows you to sit up straight. He rules Capricorn and Aquarius, is exalted in Libra, and debilitated in Cancer, Leo and Aries. Saturn wants to help you, not do it for you. He is the voice inside of you that says “I guess I have to do it then”
In traditional astrology there was no Uranus, Neptune or Pluto, they had not been discovered yet, therefore their meanings are still being worked out today. Some astrologers don’t touch them, some over use them. My view on these planets is that they bring huge changes over a long period of time. I don’t use them as rulers of signs, but I use them in electional, horary, and natal as indicators. The outer planets move real slow, and when they hit a natal planet the change can be very dramatic, like a tidal wave that completely changes the geography around you.
He has lightning bolts in his eyes. He is intentionally different, he stands out. Sudden, shocking, out of the ordinary, things you think would never do, out of character. Astrology, space, the heavens, beyond the limits of Saturn. Weird and weird, nervous, teeth grinding, forward thinking. The higher mind, the feeling of not being held down, the feeling of freedom, the struggles of liberation. With Uranus it can be one strike of lightning, in the mind, or on the field. The kid who walks funny, crypto currency, beyond meat, changing the rules. Uranus sees the most bizarre outcomes, he looks forward to surprises, his eyes are wide open, his ears pinned back. He makes uncomfortable jokes, but we need him, he is a revolution.
We need a foghorn when Neptune is around. He slows the world around us, blurs our vision, and watches you desperately search for your way. He is a dream, a mist, a fantasy. He brings confusion, he leaves questions. He is the filter on your camera app, he is the disco ball, the contact lenses, the ocean, the butterfly, the cobra. He is the mask of the clown, and the makeup you put on. Neptune changes reality through our perception, he makes you a superhero, after you have drunk too much, he helps you believe you have a chance, when you don’t. He lies, tells stories, he is Picasso, he catches the eye with objects that are non-symmetrical. He makes you think the drugs are good, he is addicted, he loves to escape. Neptune puts on the parties for the great Gatsby and is left to clean up the mess in the end.
He is deep, way out there, so deep you’re afraid to search for him. He is dismantling, he sheds his skin, lurks in the dark. Pluto must transmute or die, Pluto is death, rebirth, decay, the rotten core of an apple. He is ruthless, obsessive, destructive, and explosive. He is the volcano, the crumbling tower, and the process of rebuilding it. Pluto is undercover, he digs up old fears you tried to run from, he gives you one option. Pluto is the phoenix that rises from the ashes. He is possessive, manipulative, and criminal. Pluto breaks downs things, he eliminates waste, he cuts dead weight. Pluto wants us to transform by ridding our lives of useless things that we have grown comfortable with and attached to.
